Projects the candidate will be working on:

  • As part of the EHR Data Migration & Abstraction Program, the Clinical Quality Audit Specialist will perform internal quality audits on charts that have been abstracted to ensure accuracy and completeness of the medical record.
  • Additionally, the Clinical Quality Audit Specialist would support the EHR Abstraction team and work collaboratively with the team providing continuous quality improvement feedback in alignment with Quality Audit standards.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities

  • Works with the Sr. EHR Project Manager for overall support of the EHR Data Migration & Abstraction Program and Quality Audit standards, and the EHR Abstraction Team
  • Utilizing clinical expertise and knowledge, perform comprehensive audits on electronic medical record charts that have been abstracted to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data elements abstracted such as Problems, Medications, Allergies, Histories, Results and other data as defined in the project scope
  • Utilizes appropriate tools, processes and techniques to perform audits
  • Maintains detail-focused Audit tracking in alignment with the Quality Audit standards
  • Identify variations from established Quality standards
  • Communicates findings with Sr. EHR Project Manager and EHR Abstraction Team providing feedback and recommendations to resolve audit issues in a timely manner
  • Participates, supports and assists with project-specific initiatives
  • Participates in the project-specific educational activities of the EHR Abstraction Team
  • Participates in team meetings, conference calls
  • Assists in development of Quality policies, processes and standards
  • Other duties as assigned related to the support of the EHR Data Migration & Abstraction Program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of ICD-10 codes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology
  • Effective written, verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse population
  • Attention to detail and ability to proficiently read and interpret medical records
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions; must be able to think logically and critically
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy & Security
  • Proficiency in computer skills: Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records systems (e.g. Epic, GE Centricity, NextGen etc.)
  • Ability to work in a high-volume production environment
  • Ability to perform audits within specified parameters of quality and timeliness

Required Qualifications

  • Current certified medical coder, licensed LVN or RN
  • 2+ years Clinical Auditing experience
  • 3+ years Healthcare experience
  • Epic EHR experience
  • Excellent written and verbal skills

Team and Team size:

  •  a. This position would report to me and would be part of the national EHR Project Team and currently I am the only team member managing the national EHR Data Migration & Abstraction Program
  • i. However, the national EHR Project Team more broadly consists of about 9 members that are a blend of Program Managers, Project Managers, and Project Coordinators
