  • Organizational Change Management: Demand Planning - Advanced Planning Optimization (APO)

High-Level Project Details:  Project is currently in Blueprinting Phase—Design Workshops being conducted.

  • Nutrition currently operates two different versions of SAP’s Advanced Planning and Optimization (APO) software, used for supply, demand and deployment planning.
  • The demand planning module is divided into US and rest of world configurations. The US configuration and associated business processes are close to industry best in class for consumer-packaged goods demand planning.
  • The international configuration is limited and does not support demand planning functions needed to reach best in class.
  • As a result, the majority of international forecasting activities happen offline in Excel, within local applications and using developed software.
  • This project seeks to standardize all aspects of demand planning globally, including processes, training, performance metrics and the software needed to support these activities. In the future state, Demand Planning will be organized under a DP COE with responsibilities for process governance, training, and performance management.
  • Regional planning centers will serve as the link to local markets and report through the DP COE.
  • To enable unified processes and metrics globally, modifications need to be made to the current planning system.
  • This project will enhance the framework of the US planning books and enable the planning of all Nutrition items in one system.
  • The proposed system would utilize advanced statistical models developed by to supplement off the shelf demand planning software with artificial intelligence and advanced modeling techniques.


  • Extensive experience (5-10 years) leading change and communication efforts for multiple global, complex technology implementations
  • 4+ years of Technology or Management Consulting experience leading CM projects
  • Center of Excellence, Design Thinking, Culture and Branding/Marketing experience preferred
  • Prior experience preferred

Role-specific experience/background:

  • Advanced Planning Systems experience required (i.e., SAP APO, Oracle Demantra, Logility), including role mapping
  • End-to-end cultural change experience, including sustainability
  • Instructional Design experience preferred
  • Ability to work/succeed in rapidly changing environment
  • Global Comms and Training development / implementation experience preferred:
    • Multiple formats and deliverable types (leadership summaries, events, live training, train-the-trainer and other end user materials/job aids, Webex/Teams training, etc).
  • Experience creating/building out Change Champion Network
  • Leadership and coordination of virtual team members (change agents, subject matter experts, implementation partners, etc.)

Job Description:

  • Organizational Change Management Lead will play a key role in ensuring all change initiatives associated with IT projects meet objectives by increasing adoption and usage.
  • The individual will provide leadership focus on aspects of change, including people, business processes, systems and technology, and job roles.
  • OCM Lead will partner with the Nutrition business and the Demand Planning Center of Excellence to ensure organizational change management is integrated into project, applying a structured change management approach and methodology for the people side of change.
  • Leverage change management methodology and apply as appropriate for the business environment, adjusting as needed to ensure focus is on execution and impact to people
  • Develop and deploy user adoption program for demand planning globally, including processes, training performance metrics and software needed to support these activities
  • Drive work efforts and leverage data-driven solutions to deliver change outcomes
  • Employ transformative technologies and measure the impacts on end users
  • Actively contribute to discussions and presentations with various senior stakeholder(s) groups and proactively manage resistance and dynamics of impacted groups
  • Develop change management and adoption plans to support delivery initiatives using proven tools and frameworks
  • Develop Project OCM Approach documents
  • Identify potential people-side risks and anticipated points of resistance, and develop specific plans to mitigate or address the concerns
  • Develop and execute set of actionable and targeted change management plans, communication plan, stakeholder management plan, change impacts, and training plan
  • Provide leadership and implement change management process & tools to support adoption
  • Support the design, development, and delivery of communications
  • Lead change impact analyses, role mapping &change readiness and identify key stakeholders
  • Confront and manage conflict in a constructive and timely manner. Highlight issues to the appropriate levels and take ownership to resolve them
  • Establish and maintain high-quality relationships across the business and with external partners
  • Conducts change readiness (when applicable) and publishes change management assessments to determine effectiveness of the change implementation
  • Define and measure organization readiness, establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication, training and other change management vehicles and user understanding
  • Gain senior leader sponsorship, manage stakeholders, define stakeholder impacts, drive stakeholder awareness, guide business engagement (champion /super users)
  • Utilize innovative, creative approaches and continuous improvement to drive communications, training, change management and other human resources-related content to improve the absorption and adoption of key messages
  • Identify the preferred training approach and key stakeholders for each project or initiative as part of the overall change impact assessment
  • Support the development of tips, reference guides, FAQs and other documentation to complement training efforts
  • Utilize creative, alternative approaches to traditional classroom training including e-learning, video, and self-directed methods
  • Work with project teams to integrate change management activities into project plan.
  • Apply good project management practices
  • Comply with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures


  • Possesses entrepreneurial spirit and self-motivated working attitude
  • Experience with major transformational, cultural change programs resulting in operating model changes leading to new capabilities
  • Ability to apply a structured change management approach and methodology for the people-sided change caused by projects and change efforts
  • Strong soft skills that you can bring to bring forth organizational and operational transformation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Visio, Excel, PPT, Project, Teams); familiar with SharePoint
  • Ability to develop a change management strategy based on a situational awareness of changes and impacted groups
  • Experience with organizational design and organizational effectiveness tasks and delivery
  • Highly developed communication skills with expertise in producing Nutrition’s organization-wide communications and development of a communication strategy
  • Experience with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and to work as part of a geographically diverse team
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with experience exercising mature judgment
  • Experience with large-scale and global organizational change effort
  • A solid understanding of how people go through a change and the change process
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies
  • Experience leading an internal communications campaign, including creating cascading messages, collateral, talking points, job aids, presentations, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, and excellent active listening skills
  • Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Strong analytic and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision without positional authority

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in organizational management or information systems
  • Certified in Change Management (PROSCI, LaMarsh or CCMP) Recommended

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

  • Extensive experience (8-10 years) leading change and communication efforts for multiple global, complex technology implementations
  • 4+ years of Technology or Management Consulting experience leading CM projects
  • Center of Excellence, Design Thinking, Culture and Branding/Marketing experience preferred
  • Prior Abbott experience preferred
