A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • The Principal User Experience Designer (IA) will work with end users, stakeholders and development teams to provide UX research and design for user experiences and user interfaces for software applications.
  • This individual will work on complex, transactional, responsive web-based and mobile systems as part of a shared services organization in Information Technology.
  • These applications often have a high profile within the company because they support all business units and geographies.
  • This individual is most effective when they bring the lens of the end user to their deep understanding of business needs, industry best practices, and technology context.
  • This is not a developer/UI role. This is not a graphic design role.
  • Work samples and/or case studies need to be shared for consideration.

The Principal User Experience Designer (IA) will be responsible :

  • Guiding and conducting user experience research and design activities on multiple projects, and will: Translate business and user needs and technology constraints into solution concepts that are meaningful, easy to use, and engaging.
  • Help drive user research and assessments for the projects that fall into UX criteria, including vendor selection initiatives Conduct user research to develop insights that inform design decisions.
  • Plan and lead workshops to answer critical business questions through design thinking, rapid prototyping, and testing ideas with customers.
  • Create user journeys, user flows, prototypes, and interface mockups to demonstrate product design ideas. Bring complex data products to life through maps, dashboards and infographics.
  • Establish design patterns and apply UX best practices and approaches to products, services & user interfaces.
  • Document and communicate design specifications. Lead the efforts to develop measurable UX KPIs for key projects, and conduct usability testing and other experience measures.
  • Help drive the adoption of the UX operating model and methodology Provide effort and cost estimates for UX activities

The Principal UX Designer (IA) will be expected to:

  • Work effectively with distributed teams, on- and off-shore team members, and third-party partners Document the final user interface design in a format that is useful to various members of the development team, and consistent with company's internal project documentation standards Act as a UX lead, or collaborate on a UX team, depending on the project Operate comfortably in iterative and waterfall methodologies
  • Provide UX consultation and guidance to project sponsors and implementation teams Understand usability heuristics and crafting of effective usability requirements, and evaluate and provide heuristic assessment of user interfaces
  • Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with all levels and roles in the organization Understand and demonstrate the ability to work in a highly-regulated industry Effectively facilitate working sessions, design reviews and collaborative design meetings Possess strong knowledge of web-based application design, including responsive and adaptive methods. Remain current with internal quality training and regulatory requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelors degree 7+ years of relevant experience with a bachelors degree or 5+ years of relevant experience with an advanced degree

The right candidate will have experience with the following:

  • A full range of human-centered research and design techniques, including research methods, personas, journey maps, site mapping, user flows, cardsorting, tree studies, prototyping and usability testing.
  • Axure (RP Teams). Sketch is a plus.
  • Using and/or creating design style guides or design systems
  • Leading a collaborative design process, demonstrating developed interaction skills (facilitation, instruction, presentation, interviewing, meetings)
  • Working collaboratively with development teams
  • Interaction design using wireframes and prototyping tools, both low and high-fidelity
  • Design of highly transactional websites or web-based applications.
  • UI Design Documentation / experience writing interface design specifications
  • Usability testing (creating and conducting)
  • Global teams and systems, including non-English user interfaces
  • Inclusive design / accessibility
  • Business tools, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio or other flow mapping tools
  • Broad business knowledge and experience
  • Broad knowledge of mobile and web application development technologies

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS NICE TO HAVE

  • IT Experience desired
  • Healthcare/Med-tech or experience in another highly-regulated environment is a plus.
  • Mobile design experience including knowledge of iOS screen controls, application flow and design best practices is a plus.
  • Experience with Sketch, Invision, Adobe XD or Figma is a plus (we are an Axure / Sketch shop)
  • A desire for continuous learning
  • Willingness to experiment and iterate
  • Experience participating on Agile (or other iterative methodologies) development teams as the individual who is accountable for the user interface design
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, business writing, and listening)
  • Strong organization and leadership skills
